President's Message

Greetings

These are exciting times. GFWC has new programs, new contests, new awards, and new materials in the GFWC Club Manual. The GFWC President’s Special Project: Domestic Violence Program seeks to educate members and others about domestic violence and encourage citizen action to address multiple domestic violence concerns.

Our GFWC-SC members are embracing the 2006-2008 GFWC-SC President’s Special Project: Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit, ecumenical housing ministry seeking to eliminate poor housing and homelessness, and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity has built approximately 30,000 houses around the world, providing over 100,000 people with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Habitat invites people from all walks of life to work together to help build houses alongside families in need. Currently, there are 35 affiliates located in South Carolina affording our clubs many opportunities to offer a “hand up not a hand out”.  The goal for the 2006-2008 administration is to raise $100,000 for Habitat for Humanity.

As an organization, we have the opportunity to build on the momentum gained in membership during 2002-2006. GFWC must grow in order to survive and thrive. We must constantly meet the challenge of bringing in new members and federating new clubs in order for our clubs and our federation to be handed down to the next generation. We will continue to use the tools of communication, leadership, and continue to put emphasis on membership recognition; that is, getting to know and recognizing our members for their contributions at every opportunity on club, district, and state levels. The adjectives most frequently used to describe GFWC are the oldest and largest. We also believe another adjective – the best. What makes GFWC-SC the best? Its members. Women should not miss the opportunity to get to know the wonderful, outstanding ladies who makeup our GFWC-SC Federation and GFWC.

Consider joining us as we implement our theme for 2006-2008: Building Better Communities.
