Sims Stackhouse Mansion - GFWC-SC Headquaters
The Sims Stackhouse Mansion at 1511 Laurel Street serves as the headquarters of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of South Carolina. This historic home was built in 1853 and was occupied by only two families. Beginning in 1934, the Stackhouse family allowed the GFWC-SC to hold meetings and have an office there. We maintained the inside while the city of Columbia was to maintain the outside. Then in 2000 the City of Columbia fulfilled the wishes of the Stackhouse family and deeded the house to GFWC SC. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places as well as listed in Historic Homes of Richland County.
The first floor of this elegant, historic antebellum home may be rented for small meetings, intimate dinners, small receptions, luncheons, showers, and joyous occasions of all kinds. It is a beautiful space, maintained by volunteers, with a graceful atmosphere, that offers endless possibilities.
