Michelle Blackmon was born and raised in the upstate of South Carolina and now resides in Lexington with her husband and 2 boys. Michelle has been active in community service projects since she was a young girl as her mother was her girl scout troop leader. This instilled in Michelle, at an early age, the importance of community service. As a child, Michelle remembers participating in litter sweeps with her girl scout troop and annually collecting toys for an organization in Pickens County called Country Santa. After spending some time volunteering in a nursing home, Michelle knew as a young adult that she wanted her career to be one of service. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina in 2006 with a bachelor’s of science in nursing. While working in critical care, Michelle fell in love with healthcare. She then later returned to Clemson University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a master’s degree in nursing. She is now employed as a nurse practitioner in the specialty of pain management. Despite working in health care, Michelle‘s heart still yearned to serve in a larger capacity and to make an impact on her community. In August of 2018 Michelle attended a recruitment event for the Junior Women’s Club of Lake Murray and immediately fell in love with the GFWC organization. In 2019 Michelle served as her club’s secretary and in 2021 she served as her club’s president. In 2022 she served as her club’s past president. At the GFWC-SC 124th Annual State Convention, Michelle received the award for “Carol Vann Rowland & Susan Vann Haynes Junior Clubwoman of Achievement.” The Blackmon family is very active in their church in Lexington, SC. Michelle enjoys trips to the library, exploring SC’s State Parks, and organizing. Michelle feels serving others has helped her with her personal battle with anxiety and she ultimately feels there is no greater calling in life than to love and serve others. She looks forward to many more years of serving alongside GFWC-SC fellow clubwomen.
